Celebrating the Success of the Submerged First Lego League Regional Finals in Wales

The 2024/25 Submerged First Lego League (FLL) season has been a resounding success, culminating in three thrilling regional finals hosted by EESW STEM Cymru and in partnership with the Institute of Engineering and Technology (The IET). A total of 17 teams from across Wales showcased their innovation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in this globally renowned STEM competition.

The South-East and South-West Wales teams gathered at St Fagans National Museum of History in Cardiff on February 12th, while the North Wales event was held at the prestigious Venue Cymru on March 11th.  These vibrant events provided young engineers with a platform to demonstrate their creativity and technical prowess, all while embodying the core values of the First Lego League.

Each team took on the challenge of designing, building, and programming autonomous LEGO robots to complete a series of oceanic-themed missions, testing their collaboration and ingenuity. Additionally, participants developed innovative solutions to real-world problems, impressing judges with their research, presentations, and engineering skills.

EESW STEM Cymru extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors and volunteer judges who made these events possible.  Their invaluable support ensured an enriching and inspiring experience for all participants, helping to ignite a passion for STEM among the next generation of innovators.  EESW is also grateful to the Spectris Foundation for core funding which has enabled us to continue delivering our programmes across Wales.

“..the whole project just fulfils so many aspects of the Welsh Curriculum, the teamwork, communicating, assigning roles, coding, building, problem solving...the list goes on!” – Year 5/6 team coach

Congratulations to all the teams who took part in this fantastic season of the First Lego League – your dedication and enthusiasm are truly commendable! And EESW look forward to supporting even more new and experienced teams through the next season.

Pob lwc to Bubble Brix from Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, Caldicoders 2 from Caldicot School and Copper Coders from Ysgol Gynradd Amlwch, who will all represent Wales at the National Finals on May 3rd.
