F1 in Schools - South Wales Regional Finals 2025
EESW showcases the talent and enthusiasm of local school pupils over two days of competitive fun.
Primary School Competition - 5th March 2025
Massive thanks to the Headteachers, Teachers and primary school students who took part in the South Wales regional final. Twelve schools took part nine of whom were new to F1 in schools, making up a total of 32 teams. It is interesting to note that schools are starting to integrate the F1 in schools programme making it a part of their Schemes of Work contributing to the Curriculum for Wales.
A fabulous day at a great venue, the St. Fagans National Museum of History. The students showcased their talents and impressed the judges with their STEM knowledge, understanding of demanding concepts and innovation.
One of the new schools Y Bont Faen School were victorious with one of their teams HYDRO RACING winning the event, team VELOCE also from Y Bont Faen school making third place.
The DRAIG SIGMA team from Garnteg school achieved second place.
Unfortunately, because of other school commitments the teams from Y Bont Faen school were not able to take their places at the national final in Rotherham and so two teams from Garnteg DRAIG SIGMA and GOLDEN GEARS were able to represent South Wales in this event.
We are delighted to announce that DRAIG SIGMA won the prestigious Pit Garage display award.

The day was packed with keen young engineers, all proud, excited, and ready to present all their hard work to the judges and to see their cars compete head-to-head on the racetrack.
22 Awards were presented to teams during the awards ceremony, with teams from Pontarddulais Comprehensive School, St John’s College and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Edern all picking up Regional Champions and Runners-Up awards and going forwards to represent Wales at the F1 in Schools National Finals, with the opportunity to proceed and represent Wales on the F1 in Schools World Stage later in the year!
