Congratulations to all 73 teams across Wales who participated in the EESW Project 2024-25

This year, 13 teams from North Wales and 60 teams from South Wales completed the Project and took part in the EESW Awards and Presentation Day 2025 events.

The North Wales event was held at Venue Cymru, Llandudno on Tuesday 11th March and the South Wales event took place at the Great Hall, Swansea University Bay Campus, on Friday 21st March. This event was held in collaboration with the Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials (CISM) at the University.

During the events, the students’ projects were displayed and assessed by volunteer professionals in STEM, who had reviewed their written reports in advance. The teams also had the opportunity to be nominated for awards of £500 in a range of categories.  At the events, students were also able to visit a variety of exhibition stands from trade and academia including National Grid, Bangor University, Sony UK Technology Centre, University of South Wales & AECOM to gain an insight into STEM courses and career options.

At the South Wales event, student teams had the chance to sign up for various Engineering tours throughout the day, including a tour of CISM, Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace, Electrical & Electronic & Civil Engineering. Students were also addressed in the morning by Professor Ben Evans, Head of Aerospace Engineering and in the afternoon by Professor Owen Guy, Head of Chemistry.

We would like to thank all our sponsors, link companies and engineers, teachers, assessors, and exhibitors for another successful year of the EESW Sixth Form Project, we are very grateful for your continued support of the scheme which has been running now for over 35 years. Without your continued support, we would be unable to run events such as these.

Well done to everyone that was involved in the project this year, the standard of projects was exceptionally high, and the judges were very impressed with the team presentations, this made the task of assessment for the volunteer judges and the deliberation process for award sponsors very difficult!

Once again, we are pleased that the Project has allowed teachers, engineers, company representatives and volunteer assessors to gain a certificate endorsed by CPD UK in recognition of their time spent working with us.

"The experience was fantastic for both the students and the company. The technical team at Spectrum gained just as much from the project as the students did, making it a truly valuable and rewarding collaboration." David Treharne, Director of Engineering, Spectrum Technologies Ltd
