70 Welsh students attend Headstart Cymru events in July 2022
The Headstart Cymru residential courses gives Year 12 students the opportunity to spend time at an Engineering or Computing Department at University prior to submitting their UCAS application.
We hosted three Headstart Residential courses at University of Wales Trinity Saint David, University of South Wales and Swansea University in July this year.
University of Wales Trinity Saint David hosted two Headstart Cymru residential courses in Engineering and Applied computing & Construction and the Environment. In the evenings, students took part in a quiz and played games in the games lab.
The Engineering course at University of South Wales included talks from the Electronic & Aircraft Maintenance Engineering and Computing school and students had the opportunity to make their own lip balms.
Swansea University hosted an Engineering course which included talks and activities based on topics such as chemical engineering, civil engineering and mechanical engineering.
Rebecca Davies, EESW CEO said "Thank you to all the universities who have supported STEM Cymru to enable us to offer this fantastic opportunity to young people once again. All students who attended an event thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the interesting lectures that the academic staff delivered, as much as I did myself! This cohort of Year 12s have missed a lot of opportunities to attend physical events at critical decision points in their lives, and we hope that it has helped them to have a good insight into courses before applying to university next year."
