Pilot Semiconductor Project in South Wales 2024
Pilot project - CSconnected - Spring 2024
The CSconnected pilot project was developed and delivered by EESW to four primary schools located within South Wales to 110 students.
The principle aim of the project was to pilot interactive electronic activities in schools to raise awareness of the Semiconductor industry and the consequent career opportunities within South Wales. EESW designed the pilot project around an intervention, and then a follow up project that students could complete in the classroom after the delivery was made.
Delivery presentations were modified to link with the existing school themes or schemes of work to ensure that the intervention was not seen in isolation and could be integrated within the schools existing work.
A follow up project was designed to contribute to the individual school mapping of project work towards the Curriculum of Wales. It allows students to use the iterative problem-solving approach that they already use in their project work.
The project objectives were:
- To raise awareness of conductivity in materials and to establish knowledge of conduction detection.
- To develop knowledge of simple electronic circuits introducing alternative inputs and outputs to simulate solutions to design problems in differing environments and situations.
- Students to produce a design portfolio consisting of the research and Investigation into materials and semiconductors.
The intervention deliveries were evaluated by the class teacher and EESW received very positive comments, demonstrating the success of this pilot project.
