What EESW STEM Cymru do

We run numerous activities across Wales, providing students with the opportunity to gain practical experience working with industries, businesses and higher education. Activities include designing, making and racing a model F1 car, working with companies on real engineering problems, experiencing life as an engineering undergraduate at University and investigating, designing and modelling an innovative solution to an environmental problem.

These strands will benefit students from ages 11 to 19 of all abilities, and the aim is to further their knowledge and experience of practical STEM.

Students participating in all strands can enhance and gain essential and key skills, as well as improving their employability skills. Some of the strands offer students the chance to obtain a CREST Award, which is officially endorsed by UCAS.  Students participating in the EESW Sixth Form Project also have the opportunity to use their projects in the enterprise and employability challenge of the Welsh Baccalaureate.  More information can be found here.

EESW aims to show industry just how talented the next wave of engineers and technicians are by bringing students and industry together for the benefit of all those involved and the future prosperity of the Welsh Economy.

Our Experience

EESW has managed and delivered two previous European Union-funded projects, two Welsh Assembly-funded Computer Aided Design (CAD) programmes and a HEFCW funded Reaching Wider initiative.  The organisation’s core activity involves managing up to 100 company links with schools.  EESW received funding from the Welsh Government through the Welsh European Funding Office from 2010-2015 to run the STEM Cymru project in the Convergence area of Wales.  EESW also received funding through the Welsh Government Education Directorate to run similar activities in the other areas of Wales.

EESW has received further funding from the European Social Fund to continue to run STEMCymru 2 until June 2023.  We are also grateful to our other sponsors and partners for their continued support.

The Engineering Education Scheme Wales (EESW) is a non-profit, educational charity which has been in existence since 1989.

Established in 1989, the Engineering Education Scheme Wales Ltd (EESW) operates to show young people how valuable a career in engineering can be. EESW aims to show industry just how talented the next wave of engineers and technicians are by bringing students and industry together for the benefit of all those involved and the future prosperity of the Welsh Economy.  For more information on the trustees of the charity, click here

“The strands of the project are designed to provide a progression of innovative technological and engineering activities to contextualise and improve skills in STEM.”
